PORT OF TAURANGA
Marra Construction Ltd completed the $3 million New Anchor Products Dry Storage facility for the Port of Tauranga at Sulphur Point in August 2001.
This project was won on a competetive Design and Build tender basis. The main requirements were 7000m2 of un-impended storage space with a minimum storage height of 6m, with a crack and joint free slab, and for the project to be completed within 5 months to ensure available for the start of the milk powder season.
Interesting facts associated with this project include:
- Clear span of portals 75m (one of the largest portal clear spans in New Zealand)
- Floor slab, continuously poured on one operation with no formed joints, utilising post tensioning strands for an area of 7000m2 (one of the largest single pour commercial slabs in New Zealand)
- In excess of 1700m2 precast wall panels were manufactured on site and then placed into position.
- In excess of 8200m2 of aluminium roof and wall cladding was laid
- In excess of 3400m2 of 80mm thick asphalt container lay-down areas completed
Not withstanding a wet weather season, the project was completed ahead of schedule, giving the Port of Tauranga a defect free building within budget and on time.
